Despite neither state being a battleground, Sean Trend of Real Clear Politics raises some great points why these safe Romney states portend ill-wind for the Obama campaign in the vital battle ground states. Accordng to Mr. Trend:

[H]ere are three ways in which these states really do matter.
1) This is beginning to function as an unprecedented primary challenge to Obama.
2) It may matter a lot in swing states that border these states.
3) It’s a critical problem for the “Emerging Democratic Majority” thesis.

So while neither of these primary embarrassments for Mr. Obama will in and of themselves impact his 2012 electoral vote count, the growing discontent within his own party that is inspiring Democrats to trudge out to the polls just to protest his re-election should be chilling the spines of campaign operatives in Chicago.
